As I mentioned in 3 Financial Lessons Learned from Children’s Stories, my fondest childhood memories include regular trips to the library with my grandfather. And even today (many, many years later), I still love reading and going to the library. Just recently, I finished reading an inspirational book entitled Recreating A Better Me by Anntricia Bray Smith.

“Fear is the number one cause of people choosing not to walk in their purpose. Fear has no place in your destiny. You must be willing to face your fears in order to walk in your purpose with confidence.”

~Recreating A Better Me by Anntricia Bray Smith

At first, I flipped through the book and immediately put it back down. My initial thoughts were, “Oh no, this lady wants me to work.” You see, while this book may be an easy read, it requires honest, self-reflection. And ultimately, what you gain from reading the book, depends on the amount of effort that you put into your own self-examination.

The author was extremely transparent and shared personal details about her own life (good, bad, ugly) in a conversational, down to earth manner. She discussed issues pertaining to abuse, poverty, relationships and self-worth.

The chapters in Recreating A Better Me include:

  • Financial Education
  • Better Self-Care
  • Reconstructing Thoughts
  • Better Relationships
  • Nutrition and Healthy Living
  • Learn how to tell your story
  • Walk in your purpose
  • Be comfortable in your skin
  • Overcoming the barriers of mediocrity
  • Freedom in Forgiveness
  • Recreating a better me

Once I finally committed to reading/working through the book, there were several instances in which I found myself agreeing, out loud, to the authors statements. Also, I experienced moments of sadness, anger, and excitement for things to come. I would recommend this book to anyone (man, woman, teen) seeking encouragement and ways to live a better, more productive life and/or who wants to have a more positive impact on those around them.

“When you discover your issues, go to work on yourself and try to find practical ways for you to become better or more knowledgeable in that area. When you work on yourself, everything connected to you becomes better.” ~Anntricia Bray Smith
